At This Year’s Oscars, Stars Turned the Red Carpet Green - Vogue

Tonight's Oscars red carpet certainly dished up the glitz and glamour that you'd expect to see at the awards ceremony. (See Vogue's best-dressed Oscars list from the red carpet here.) But there was also a new spirit in the air this evening, one that saw Hollywood A-listers reject the tradition of having brand new gowns custom-made for them. Instead, select stars embraced a more eco-minded approach to fashion. They did so by opting to wear vintage dresses or gowns that had a sustainable or upcycled element to them.

The Oscars were not the only green-leaning awards this season. The BAFTAs instituted a dress code that encouraged stars to re-wear a look from a past carpet appearance. But during tonight's ceremony, some stars took the idea to bold new heights.

Below, 10 stars whose Oscars outfit put the planet first.

The 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday staged the final red carpet of the 2020 awards season as seemingly all the stars in the galaxy made their soggy way into the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. As we've come to expect from this year's events, the Oscars didn't disappoint, showcasing the showstopping trends we've grown accustomed to seeing.

Bold colors and voluminous gowns ruled the various awards red carpets this year, along with shimmering fabrics and an abundance of bling, courtesy of some of the marquee names in the jewelry game. Sunday night, however, brought us a more muted color palette.

Sustainability continued to be an awards show mainstay, and the reuse ethos was on public display through the many looks that came courtesy of attendees' personal closets, jewelry boxes and vintage collections. We can get behind this trend and hope to see more of the new/old mix in the future.

Our selections for hits, misses and those that were on the fence reflect all of the aforementioned styles and drive them home as we come to the end of the major red-carpet outings.

Lights, camera, action! On Sunday, February 9, stars flocked to the 92nd annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in L.A. to celebrate the best of the best in film. Celebs dressed in their black tie best, closing out this year's awards season in the most stylish — and sexy — way possible.

From daring dresses and sophisticated jumpsuits to larger-than-life ballgowns and plunging necklines, there was truly no shortage of memorable looks to go around at the Oscars. For example, Renée Zellweger looked breathtaking in a one-shoulder Armani Prive gown and Cynthia Erivo turned heads in a magnificent Atelier Versace number.

But that's far from all of the crazy-good fashion moments we'll be dreaming about until next year's ceremony. Billie Eilish pledged her allegiance to Chanel in a cool white pantsuit and Gal Gadot shook the nation in a Givenchy gown featuring a sheer, lacy bodice. Additionally, Natalie Portman donned a black cape over her Dior gown that featured a touching ode to female film directors.

From 6:30 p.m. EST until 8:00 p.m., stars walked the carpet before taking their seats in the star-studded theater. Over the course of the evening, celebrity presenters took turns announcing this year's big wins. Some of the evening's stylish presenters included Penélope Cruz, Gal Gadot, Maya Rudolph and Regina King.
