This time of year kills me.
I cannot handle heat and its crazy warm right now. I have to wear tights to wear as well which is fine but its presented a bit of an issue when it comes to shorts.
It is simply too hot to wear them.
I, like most girls, hate my legs. I hate getting them out because not only are they the worst part of my body but I have scars on my knees which I hate. I know my scars, while they are not bad, cause me to be self conscious and a little bit wary. I know they are there and while most people don't notice them - the few that do have not always been kind. I remember once being asked (at the age of 13 when I was nicely self conscious) - what the f*** is up with your legs? And since then I've worn tights my whole life to avoid getting them out. It's amazing the damage that kids of that age can do!
I prefer a thick black pair of tights too - the kind that this weather was not invented for.
So right now - I am dying in this heat. I am considering cutting up a pair of ruined black jeans to make a pair of killer hot pants but I cant even bring myself to do even that. I don't want to go down the road of nude tights because I think they look unnatural and weird.
It does make me think though - we can get into ruts with our clothing and reach for the same items when we have a particular style. Mine is black tights. I cannot imagine going out without them. I wore nude tights with a dress for a wedding once and it nearly killed me to do so. I think black tights can look a little odd with a pair of shorts at the best of times but during the summer - its really weird.
Another issue I have with summer dressing is scarves. I just bought a black snood which has become like a comfort blanket to me. I cannot get dressed without adding a scarf of some description. I just cant do it. However my snood is knitted and its killing me!
The summer sun is so unkind!
The last 'issue' I have been having is my make-up. There is nothing worse then a full face of make-up in the summer sun and my god - its horrible right now. It runs, it goes patchy and it causes spots when the skin becomes clogged with product. The only thing you can do is to up the skincare routine and lighten creams - I've switched from a heavier cream to a gel right now to avoid overpowering my skin. I've also lightened my usual foundation as well. I would urge people to lighten their coverage for summer. People think that they need a summer foundation which is darker then their normal color - which is fair enough - but I think there should be some thought about how heavy the coverage is too.
Oh and becareful with SPF as well. I've been wearing factor 50 this week to avoid any form of burn. I don't know if anyone would trust a make-up artist with a really burnt face!!!! I can hide my arms if they get burnt but my face is a different story! While most foundations have an SPF in them - its worth noting that these are usually factor 10 or 15. I'm thinking of investing in a primer with SPF 50 like the MAC Prep and Prime one.
The many joys of an Irish summer!
