President Buhari to appoint chairman for NCS

- The Senate has amended the Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C.45 of 2004, subjecting the appointment of the comptroller-general of the customs to its confirmation

- Reports have that the appointment is also subject to the confirmation by the Senate and renewable once

- The Minister of Finance may be directing matters pertaining to administration, assessment, collection and accounting for revenues

The senate said President Muhmmadu Buhari would appoint a chairman for Nigeria customs service commission to superintend over the administration of the service for a period of four years.

The senate said the chairman is expected to be a retired career comptroller general or deputy comptroller general.

Daily Trust reports that the appointment is also subject to the confirmation by the Senate and renewable once.

NAIJ.com gathered that the approval of the report of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, Hope Uzodinma (PDP, Imo) on the amendment of the Customs law. sixty-five clauses in the law were amended.

Uzodinma said the commission would be responsible for managing policies of the NCS, or matters pertaining to administration, assessment, collection and accounting for revenues, as may be directed by the Minister of Finance from time to time.

The Senate on Thursday, June 1, amended the Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C.45 of 2004, subjecting the appointment of the Comptroller-General of the Customs to its confirmation.

Clause 13 (1) of the Customs Act that reads: “there shall be appointed from the Customs Service, a Comptroller-General” has been replaced with, “the President shall appoint from the Customs Service, subject to the confirmation of the Senate, a Comptroller-General”.

NAIJ.com recalls that one of President Muhammadu Buhari's well-wisher on Wednesday, May 17, sent him some flowers and what appeared to be a get-well-soon card.

The well-wisher delivered a bouquet of flowers at the official residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner to the Court of St James in Abuja House before noon, on Wednesday, May 17.

The courier lady who made the delivery told the security officer who responded to the buzzer that she had flowers to deliver to the president.
