To Solder Or Not To Solder

To solder or not to solder, that is the question most brides-to-be and new brides ask.  Is is better to solder you engagement ring and wedding band together, or not?  It's a personal choice but the following information can help you decide.

If you choose to solder:
  • Your rings will not wear down.  When your engagement ring and wedding band aren't soldered together they tend to rub against each other.  Over time, this will wear down the metal (and the rhodium plating on white gold).
  • Engagement rings can sometimes be top-heavy and turn on your finger and you may have to straighten them frequently to keep them facing up.  Soldering your rings together helps prevent this.
  • The solder doesn't show and it doesn't harm your rings.
  • It is not permanent.  If you choose to have the rings taken apart later it can easily be done.
If you choose not to solder:
  • You can wear your wedding band by itself.  This flexibility can be a plus for some women who want to wear their lower profile wedding band by itself on the job.
